The next generation of swimming suits are in the pipeline and already the indications are that with the right suit you can shave tenths of seconds of your times.
Given that a race is supposed to test the individual (or team) how can there be any kind of fair comparison if the richer nations get the best equipment and the poorer ones get the hand me downs?
In swimming at least the competition seems to be between the suit technologies and not the people. Australia had some advantages in China and now it looks like the French will get some advantage with the newer technology.
One wonders how long it will be before the human is taken out of the equation altogether and we just have robots doing all the sports. IF each individual doe not have the same advantages then it is in no way a fair comparison of individual or team skills.
