Advertisements of jobs has dropped quicker than the past two economic downturns. Job availabilities are now commonly in 12 month blocks rather than permanent employment. This means that it is harder to get a job if you are unemployed and there is a greater and greater burden on the government support systems.
Rudd's solution? More 'skilled labour' visas than ever for people outside of Australia to come in. What appears to be a weakening of the policies for illegal immigrants i.e. boat people who instead of being turned back to Indonesia are safely brought onto Australian territories.
Why? Rudd's UN bid of course. The more he is seen to be supporting those outside of Australia the better his position is when he wants to make his move.
