The Age of Stupid Movie - Must be Idiot to Watch

Its a British climate change (AGW) activist movie about all the bad things that are going to happen to the Earth if we don't all get moving on stopping climate change.

Watching the preview there are images of the Sydney Opera House burning, temperatures hitting 101 Fahrenheit, (so what?), Las Vegas buried in sand (not sure how that happened) and London boiling.

The film should have been titled "Abandon Science All Ye Who Enter Here."

As one film reviewer wrote "The film is so cretinous it makes Michael Moore look like a modern-day Bergman; so scientifically vacuous it makes Lysenko look like Einstein; so achingly middle-class it makes The Good Life look like a kitchen-sink drama about miners’ wives."

What the film does do, and do so well, is to expose the elitism of AGW alarmists that can only spout Armageddon scenarios while ignoring any facts.

The bad guy is the owner of a low budget airline in India who wants poor people to be able to fly (unlike the rich AGW pundits who fly around in their private jets). Given that aviation is estimated to contribute 1.6% of our total greenhouse gas production it is weird that an Indian airline exec is picked as the bad guy. Oh, and he has a total of six airlines but somehow the implication is that he is causing floods in Mumbai.

The hero of the film realises that things are not well when he notices there is less snow on the Bergerac slopes one year (due to retreating glaciers) and turns to building wind farms and ruining his car on chip fat. His capitalism is presented as green so its OK. When one of his farms is rejected by the Bedford Council this also causes floods.

The movie contains all the right words like "tipping point", "The Science", "denial", and "future generations." It is a film that at best dresses up junk science in moralism and is about greed causing the world to turn into a wasteland. It attacks the poorer countries. The solution? A massive system of governance that monitors carbon use, personal freedoms and habits that shares out the misery equally.

It is rubbish and not even very entertaining unless you like to sit down and be told how stupid you are and that you are destroying the planet, through carbon.

  1. Do you have anything different to say, with the recent devastation of Queensland by flooding?

Supposedly caused by the more powerful La NiƱa.

  2. No, nothing new to say at all.

The flooding in Queensland was not caused by man made global warming but a combination of factors that recent research places heavy emphasis on the Indian Ocean current (oscillation cycle).

If anything the floods in Brisbane were caused by the official reaction to global warming alarmism and the contradictory directives to the dam controllers (think HAL 2000)

Some of the damage and lost lives in some places can all be attributed to the councils listening to the "no more rain" AGW pundits and allowed people to build on flood plains. There are many more examples that could be tied in and I'm sure you can think of them on your own.
