Australia The Best - At Everything

If you were an alien landing in Australia directly from outer space and started watching a news channel you would be excused for thinking that Australia was the best and had the best of everything.

We have the best tennis players, the best cricketers, the best soccer players, the best bushfire fighters, the best economy, the best banks, the best education system and the best refugee package. OK that last one is actually correct.

In reality our leaders and decision makers believe that when something has been found to have failed everywhere else that it must be possible to make it work here. Ask our students how they are going these days. With the regular subjects replaced with sensitivity training, the absence of grading, of meaningless performance evaluations, we are producing a new group of sub standard graduates. Well from high school at least, then they hit the harsh realities of the real world either in the workplace or in university.

It is the same in our defense forces where a recruit can hold up a stress card if they feel they are bring hard done by. I wonder how well that works with the Taliban. Extend this principle across the spectrum of behavior and you end up with a very weak country that spends all its time blaming others and not getting on with it.

The continued promotion of such philosophies can only end up with two possible futures. A strong kickback from the populous at some later time or a culture and society that fades into obscurity. I am hoping for the former, sadly if we end up going the way of the UK it will probably be the latter.
