Carbon Credits - Someone's Getting Rich

It is estimated that the carbon, in the form of CO2, that was released into the air as a result of the recent bush fires, exceeds the total usage for Australia for a year.

Thanks to Rudd's signing and ratifying of Kyoto and other agreements this means that we will need to buy millions of dollars of carbon credits to offset what is essentially a natural process. At the same time 'developing nations' like China and India can burn whatever they like with no need to buy any credits at all.

So if the Earth is warming (latest satellite data says "no") and if CO2 drives climate change (basic science says "no") and if changing the amount of CO2 will make any difference (still huge debate on this one) then how does paying a guilt tax help?

Al Gore buys carbon credits from his own company. Carbon credits do nothing for the supposed problem other than to assuage guilt. That means that someone is making a lot of money off common people (paying taxes that the govt then spends on the carbon credits) for no realised benefit.

Who gets all the money? Supposedly it goes to corporations that are supposed to invest in green energy. This doesn't reduce carbon or provide carbon sinks (unless they are cooling the oceans or planting a lot of trees).

At a time when sensible spending and fiscal management our government is wasting money on at best dubious causes and by going into debt. Talking about paying for carbon from bush fires is just silly. Catch the arsonists and charge them instead.
